How we test

Bowhunt America builds its picks on research you can trace: criteria set before any product is examined, manufacturer specs verified against each other, owner reviews read across forums and retailers at scale, and named expert sources compared side by side. Every verdict points back to the evidence under it.

Criteria come before picks

Every review and guide states its criteria, in the order they were weighted, before any product appears. A verdict you cannot trace to a stated criterion does not ship. When a superlative survives editing, it is tied to a criterion: the quietest rest we compared at this price, not the best rest ever made.

The evidence behind a pick

Each review states which of these its verdicts rest on, in its methodology block:

  • Verified manufacturer specs, checked against each other rather than copied.
  • Owner reviews read at scale: forum threads, retailer reviews, and warranty and return patterns.
  • Named expert sources, compared against one another rather than taken on a single say-so.
  • Hands-on, where we have it, with the extent stated: how many arrows, what distances, what conditions.

Hands-on, as it grows

Hands-on is being added to these guides, beginning with range work on the gear we can put rounds through. Where a pick has been shot or handled, the review says so and the Updated line records it. Until then a pick stands on the research above, with its evidence named.
